Volunteering Overview

Throughout the year the club volunteers at various events.

There of course is Proud To Run in June. This is our own club's charity fundraiser the Saturday morning before the pride parade.

Volunteers are needed race day but also many weeks and months prior to the event for planning and preparation.

Other races where we volunteer require only a 3 to 5 hour time commitment when we do a typical water station. These events are a bit of work, but a LOT of fun. They're a chance to get to know club members better and to interact with the running public at large.

Here are some of the races we volunteer for:

Shamrock Shuffle
Shamrock Shuffle
(early Spring) - We marshall the 5K fitness walk in Grant Park.

Chicago Distance ClassicChicago Distance Classic
(summer) - We do a water station.

JP Morgan Chase Corporate ChallengeJP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge
(summer) - We hand out liquids and other refreshments at finish area in Grant Park.

LaSalle Bank Chicago MarathonThe LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon
(autumn) - This is the BIG one - 40,000 runners coming through our award-winning aid station on Broadway at Melrose, with male cheerleaders, exquisitely costumed dancers, two city blocks of a professional sound system, and lots of smiles on lots of faces.

If you've never volunteered at an event like the above, you owe it to yourself to try it. Once you've tried it, you'll find yourself wanting to come back for more.
