Pride Youth
The mission of the Pride Youth Program of LINKS - North Shore Health Service - is to empower young people to take responsibility for their health, well-being, and sexuality through prevention and education. Their goals are threefold: to reduce the number of youths who go untreated and uninformed because their awareness or resources are minimal, to foster a sense of adulthood by allowing young people to seek help on their own initiative and, to invite them to explore a value system and individual accountability that will help them arrive at a personal definition of social responsibility. This year, the Pride Youth Program would like to expand its community education outreach to area middle schools and additional high schools for the purpose of educating staff, administration, and students on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues, in turn, creating a safer environment for LGBT youth to learn. Monies received from PTR will enable Pride Youth to create better advertising and outreach for this project and will provide volunteers with the needed training and materials to educate the school community.
