OUR PRESENT

Frontrunners/Frontwalkers Chicago is the city’s premier running and walking club for the lesbian, gay, bi, and trans communities of Chicago. Wherever you are on your personal journey as an LGBT person and as a runner or walker, Frontrunners/Frontwalkers Chicago provides a welcoming and fun environment where you can meet new friends  and realize personal goals. FR/FWChicago also welcomes and encourages allies of the LGBT community to join our club.

Our Weekly Fun Runs/Walks

We meet Tuesdays at 6:30pm and Saturdays at 9:00am year round, rain or shine, at the Totem Pole located just east of the intersection of Addison and Lake Shore Drive. We offer a 3 mile walking course, and running courses of 3, 4, 5, and 6 mile distances. See our course maps below. Afterwards, we share a meal at one of the many great restaurants located in the Lakeview, Uptown, and Edgewater neighborhoods of Chicago.

Our Annual Focus Races

Each year, FR/FWChicago offers a circuit of races in which we participate either as runners and walkers or as volunteer staffers. There is at least one circuit race opportunity every month of the year. FR/FWChicago members who participate in at least 50% of our annual circuit challenge receive a free entry pass to the club’s annual  holiday party in December. Our Social Events

The club organizes social event periodically through the year for our members and their friends to have fun and socialize. Past events have included our annual holiday party, a summer picnic, parties at members’ homes, and attending sporting and cultural events as a group.

Our Training Programs

Periodically throughout the year, FR/FWChicago offers various training programs free of charge to club members. Our offerings range from “learn to run” programs to programs designed to build speed and endurance. Here is the 2017 calendar of training  offerings.

This Spring, FR/FW Chicago will once again offer the Couch to 10K training program coached by Dan Solera free of charge to all dues paying members of FR/FW Chicago. Here is some info about Dan.

Dan began running in 2008 as a means to enjoy a new neighborhood with plenty of sidewalks and parks. But it wasn’t until he brought an old Nokia phone with him to clock each individual mile time that he realized how much he enjoyed challenging himself to go farther, faster. Two years later, he ran three half marathons and his first marathon in Chicago. Today, he has run 47 half marathons and 36 marathons and ultra-marathons all over the United States. Running has given him the chance to explore the world around him in exhilarating ways, and has allowed him to meet many interesting people along the way.

In addition to coaching FR/FW Chicago’s Couch-to-10k program, he trains with Fleet Feet’s Boston365 running group and will be the official coach for the Jackson Chance Foundation’s #TeamChance charity group for the fourth consecutive year.
