Profiles - Tim Fox

Reason you started running?
I didn't run at all during high school, but one of my close friends at the University of Virginia was an excellent long-distance runner and triathlete. His example and encouragement got me started, and I've been running for 25 years.
When did you join the club?
I began showing up for the Saturday morning runs right after I moved to Chicago in the fall of 2000 from Des Moines, where I had been part of a small Front Runners group that formed in the late 90s.
Favorite workout?
No question: long runs on the lakefront. But I admit that speed training probably is my most productive workout.
Favorite race?
My favorite race is the River-to-River Relay, which follows an 80-mile course between the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers across southern Illinois. In 2003, a great team that includes some Front Runners asked me to join them, and I've enjoyed the team members and the race experience every year since then.
Favorite non-running activities?
I'm always reading at least one book. Other than science fiction/fantasy, I'll read virtually anything: American history, short stories, travel writing, biographies, novels. I'm grateful that my book club introduces and reintroduces me to some great reading.
