On Sunday, August 20th, 2017, our club is hosting it’s very first timed half marathon called the “Rainbow Half Marathon”!
This will be a grass roots, low frills, fun event and is being organized by our illustrious longtime club member Corbin Woodling.
The “Rainbow Half Marathon” will start and finish at the Totem Pole at 8:04 AM. (Packet pickup will begin at the Totem Pole just before the event at 7:15 AM)
Our 13.1 mile course will be clearly marked but will also be easy to follow. It will consist of one large loop on the Lakefront running path. The course will start at the Totem Pole and run north to Hollywood Avenue and around the circle turnaround. From there, it will head back south along the same path. It will pass the Totem Pole and continue south. It will pass the North Avenue Beach House down to near Oak Street. At the south turnaround point, it will return along the same path to the Totem Pole. (Detailed maps will be posted shortly before event.) Our course will not be USATF certified or CARA sanctioned but will be as close to 13.1 miles as GPS will allow.
There will be 6 official aid stations (3 aid stations passed twice each) on the course approximately every 2.5 miles. These aid stations will be staffed by club volunteers and friends. Each station will have water, Gatorade, bananas plus some surprise snacks.
A gear check will be a tarp near the Start/Finish area to leave drop bags.
There will be a clock at the start/finish and a volunteer will document your finishing time. Results will be posted on our Facebook page on Monday, August 21st.
And are you ready for the cost? FREE! The club is paying the costs but we are requesting that you please bring a needed item to the start line which will be donated to the Lakeview Pantry (www.lakeviewpantry.org). We are also focusing on recycling!
You can only register online. This event is limited to 100 participants. The deadline to sign up is Friday, August 18th at midnight. There will NOT be any race day registration or NOT be any the day before the event.
There will be medals and fun for all finishers. And you probably will also receive a ‘grab bag’ finishers shirt. Fun!
After the event, everyone is invited to the Chicago Park District’s Clock Tower Cafe at 11:15 a.m for some food (at your own expense). It’s just a very short walk from the Totem Pole.
